Motion Stills

Hey folks,

This is an ‘infomercial’ for the (now not so) new  EOS-1D C. This camera allows you to shoot 4k videos, twice the resolution of a regular HD videos.

With this ability, comes the added benefit of extracting stills from the motion reel, with a quality unrivalled to date.

The question asked in this clip is “Is this new way of capturing images viable?”. Some other questions like “Is this cheating??” come along…

This is funny to see how we react to changes in technology. Those changes transform the way we do things, and change is hard, often scary. Is this the end of photographers as we know them?? It may well be! Why bother trying to press the shutter at the very right moment during a wedding when you can be rolling and find the perfect ‘micro-expression’ after the fact?! No more guessing, no more missed opportunities! I don’t think it makes you any less of a photographer. You still have to compose the shot and recognize the key moment. This is progress. As much as I think photography is an art in itself, if it can be done more easily, with greater accuracy, I’m all for it. Give me a Canon EOS 1C and I’ll convert!!
