17-Mile Drive Club

I knew staying in Carmel was a good idea, but it turned out to be the best idea ever! The 2 days we spent here have been the best of our entire trip!!

From the town itself to the drive leading to it, to the beach, to the road to Monterey… Everything is spectacular, mind-blowing!!

We went for a stroll on the beach this morning, and I couldn’t stop firing my camera… Got a little trigger-happy, shooting every new wave crashing on the shore… The scenery is so awesome, that you don’t know where to look, and when to stop looking… We could have spent the entire day staring at the ocean!

Photographs really fail to convey the grandeur of the place, as all senses are required, to feel the spray of the ocean, feel the warmth of the morning sun on your skin, smell the algae rolling onto the sand, hear the waves loudly crash on the shore, mixed with the dogs barking in excitement, running after their ball… I don’t mean to rub it in, but you really have to be here…

After our morning walk, we decided to drive to nearby Monterey. One way to do this is to use a road called ‘the 17-mile drive’, snaking through the grounds of Pebble Beach. For a small $9.75 fee (probably to help the residents get by…), you are allowed to drive through this elite gated community, that hosts the famous golf courses of Pebble Beach. An amazing drive, inland or following the coast, that keeps awing you at every turn. The rugged shoreline between Carmel and Monterey is breathtaking!!

Once in Monterey, we wandered in the Cannery Row district, had a quick beverage and bite to eat, pondered buying ‘Hairy Otter’ or ‘Otters’ tee-shirts (…), and drove back to Carmel, using the the 17-mile drive again (maximizing our $9.75 investment!), just to make sure our eyes could not be wider open…

I didn’t mention the multimillion dollar ‘shacks’ in Pebble Beach… A lot for sale, to say the truth… Thinking about it…

As the sun went down, we followed it along the coast and back onto the main beach in Carmel, to capture to last light of the day, and probably the last sunset of our vacation…

Later.
